How to deal with the sin of idolatry:

  1. Ask God to reveal idols that may have crept into your heart

  3. Repent and tear down the idols of your heart in the name and power of Jesus
  4. Pursue a passionate, burning love for Jesus that takes priority over every part of your life

*If you have hate in your heart for others you are living in darkness!

*Those who hate others can be assured of two things:

  1. They are living in deception 2. They are spiritually blind

*When you are spiritually blind you move slow and stumble often!

*Disobedience in one area of our life can lead to sin and disobedience in other areas of our life

Three traits of true love modeled by Jesus:

  1. Love is sacrificial (Vs. 16)
  2. Love is compassionate (Vs. 17)
  3. Love is action (Vs. 18-19)

*The purpose of conviction is not to condemn you but to free you!

*Our obedience to Him is testimony of our fellowship with Him!

Let us Live in Love!

Vs. 1a – Do not sin!

*Sin: A transgression of God’s law

Vs. 1b – We have an “Advocate”!

Advocate: On who speaks in one’s defense, one who pleads another’s case

*We never stand alone when we have the Savior!

1 Tim. 2:5 – KJV

Vs. 2 – The atonement provides a removal of guilt and a cleansing from sin

*Jesus died not just for my sins, but the sins of the whole world

*There is no sin beyond the reach of the blood!

Vs. 3 – Fellowship brings obedience

Vs.4 – A lack of obedience proves three things:  1. Deception 2. Lack of relationship 3. Lack of truth

Vs. 5 – Relationship -> Obedience -> Manifestation of God’s love

Vs. 6 – A Christian’s claim is worthless apart from a life-style that brings glory to God.
