Three areas that Paul condemned the Corinthian gatherings:

  1. Divisions
  2. Selfishness
  3. Confusion

Why we come together:

  1. To share in the Lord’s supper (Communion) – (1 Cor. 11:26-31, Acts 2:42)
  2. To use our spiritual gifts to edify (or build up) the body of Christ (1 Cor. 14:12,26, Heb. 10:25)
  3. To Worship God – (Psm.34:3, Acts 2:47)
  4. To be equipped for ministry – (Eph. 4:11-12)
  5. To fellowship with other believers – (Acts 2:47)
  6. To pray – (Acts 2:42, 1 Tim 2:1, Luke 19:46)

  4. Love does not boast and is not proud
  5. Love is not rude
  6. Love does not insist on its own way
  7. Love is not irritable
  8. Love keeps no records of wrong
  9. Love does not rejoice in wrong
  • Love rejoices in truth
  1. Love does not give up
  2. Love does not lose faith
  3. Love is always hopeful
  4. Love endures through everything


*Everything we do for Christ must be viewed through the lens of love

*Though it may be a challenge our aim must always be to possess love

The Five Challenges of Marriage:

*Three primary reasons to marry:

  1. For companionship (Gen. 2:18)
  2. For procreation (Children) (Gen. 1:28, 1 Tim.5:14)
  3. For sexual needs (1 Cor. 7:5,8,36)

Paul’s reasons for remaining single:

  1. A single person can devote more of their life to the Lord (Vs. 32-33)
  2. Because of the present distress and persecution Christians were facing (vs.26)
  3. The Challenge of meeting each other’s needs (vs. 3-5)

III. The Challenge of being unequally yoked (vs. 12-17)

  1. The Challenge of Divorce

Three important things about divorce:

  1. God hates divorce (Mal. 2:16)
  2. Divorce is only for extreme circumstances (Mat. 5:32)
  3. God can forgive divorce (Mat. 12:31)
  4. The Challenge of being single

*God’s purpose for all of us is to have “undivided devotion to Christ” in whatever state we find ourselves
