“The Challenges we Face” Part 7 “The Challenge of Marriage”

1 Cor. 7:1-16, 32-35

The Five Challenges of Marriage:

  1. The Challenge of whether or not to marry (Vs.1-2, 6-7, 8-9, 36)

*Three primary reasons to marry:

  1. For companionship (Gen. 2:18)
  2. For procreation (Children) (Gen. 1:28, 1 Tim.5:14)
  3. For sexual needs (1 Cor. 7:5,8,36)

Paul’s reasons for remaining single:

  1. A single person can devote more of their life to the Lord (Vs. 32-33)
  2. Because of the present distress and persecution Christians were facing (vs.26)
  3. The Challenge of meeting each other’s needs (vs. 3-5)

III. The Challenge of being unequally yoked (vs. 12-17)

  1. The Challenge of Divorce

Three important things about divorce:

  1. God hates divorce (Mal. 2:16)
  2. Divorce is only for extreme circumstances (Mat. 5:32)
  3. God can forgive divorce (Mat. 12:31)
  4. The Challenge of being single

*God’s purpose for all of us is to have “undivided devotion to Christ” in whatever state we find ourselves
